- Simple, tribal, bold, and colorful motifs that originate from the Anatolian region that comprises the majority of modern-day Turkey
- A central medallion centerpiece design appropriated from 15th century Persian manuscript covers, now a mainstay of carpet weaving
- Angular edges and shapes like diamonds, squares, lattices, crosses, and stripes as well as geometric animals

Siirt, in southeastern Turkey, is known throughout Turkey for lightweight, flatwoven kilims made of goat hair in tones of black, white, gray, and tan. Its unique kilims feature a lustrous pile that is achieved by brushing the front-facing surface of the rug to tease up the longer fibers.
Material DetailsGoat hair is longer in fiber length and stiffer than sheep's wool. In a Siirt kilim, goat hair is flatwoven and brushed repeatedly to tease out a textured pile to mimic the furry hide of animal pelts.
