Mut is a seaside town in southern Turkey known for nomadic goat hair kilims with geometric designs hand embroidered in wool yarn.
Goat hair and wool each have properties favorable to creating a durable frame. Cotton is rigid and strong and does not warp easily over time. Goat hair, which is also a naturally durable fiber, has long, bristly strands that create texture throughout the kilim. Finally, because wool takes dye very well, all embroidery is done with vegetable-dyed wool yarn for decorative effect.
