Motifs
  • Simple, tribal, bold, and colorful motifs that originate from the Anatolian region that comprises the majority of modern-day Turkey
  • Repeating medallions create visual interest as medallions fill out the length of a runner with ornate details
  • Geometric stepped details characteristic of Anatolian motifs
  • A meander, or Greek key attributed to its tooth shape, forms a continuous geometric pattern, named after the River Meander in western Turkey for its many twists and turns
Region of Origin

Anatolian rugs are defined by their tribal, geometric designs, rich in symbols reflective of life in traditional households.

Material Details

Goat hair is longer in fiber length and stiffer than sheep's wool. In kilims, it is woven into a durable flatweave with intricate designs hand embroidered on top with wool yarn.
