Region of Origin
- Simple, tribal, bold, and colorful motifs that originate from the Anatolian region that comprises the majority of modern-day Turkey
- Lined with a triplet of geometrically stylized Anatolian medallions
Kars in the very easternmost part of Turkey near the border with the Caucasus is known for its rugs woven with modified Caucasian designs. They are almost always on an all-wool foundation and coarsely woven in either earth-toned natural wool colors of cream, gray, and brown, or in pastels of pink and light blue.
Wool is the most popular fiber used in Turkish rugs because it is supple, durable, and plentiful in supply.
