  • Simple, tribal, bold, and colorful motifs that originate from the Anatolian region that comprises the majority of modern-day Turkey
  • Commonly associated with the Yoruk nomads of Anatolia, latch-hook ornaments and details protect against ill-will and sources of danger like wild animals or natural catastrophes
Region of Origin

Malatya in central Anatolia is known for its coarsely knotted rugs with geometric designs woven by Kurdish tribes.

Material Details

Wool is the most popular fiber used in Turkish rugs because it is supple, durable, and plentiful in supply. A cotton foundation is also a popular choice, used to tie the wool knots onto. Cotton is rigid and strong, providing a firm foundation that stands the test of time.
