Region of Origin

Siirt, in southeastern Turkey, is known throughout Turkey for lightweight, flatwoven kilims made of goat hair in tones of black, white, gray, and tan. Its unique kilims feature a lustrous pile that is achieved by brushing the front-facing surface of the rug to tease up the longer fibers.

Material Details

Goat hair is longer in fiber length and stiffer than sheep's wool. In a Siirt kilim, goat hair is flatwoven and brushed repeatedly to tease out a textured pile to mimic the furry hide of animal pelts.
