The Dino Collection: Amanda Jane Jones x Revival
Kids have it best—that’s what we said after seeing the final sketches from Amanda Jane Jones for her second joint rug collection with Revival. For the uninitiated, the super-mom, graphic designer, art director, and illustrator knows a thing or two about making work that’s synonymous with capital “F” fun—she also has a serious eye for interior design, which works well in tandem.
A children’s book author, she isn’t shy about using vibrant colors – especially the primaries – and animated shapes in her art. The washable Dino Collection, made up of the T-Rex Rug and Bronto Rug, spans cheerful aesthetics and everyday utility. We caught up with Amanda to learn more about what sparked her creativity for these dream pieces for every playroom, nursery, or pillow fort.
Revival: We’re so excited to chat again. Catch us up! Tell us a bit about how your current life informed the new washable Dino Collection.
I have three really creative and active kids, who all really like dinosaurs...my youngest especially. So I was excited to play with the dinosaur shape. When my kids and I unwrapped the rugs for the first time, my little one spread out like a starfish and said, "This is mine." He loves them.
Revival: Was anything different in your process for creating this washable collection than the last?
In the beginning, I made dinosaurs that were more abstract, and they didn't really translate. I have the samples though! So, it’s fun to have a piece of what was an ever-evolving process to our then-finished product. For this washable collection, it was interesting editing as we went and seeing what worked best visually and what didn't in this longer, washable material.
Revival: Speaking of, are you excited that the Dino Collection is washable?
Yes! What a game changer. It’s great not worrying so much when messes come up, which as you could predict, is often [when you’re] at home with little ones.
Revival: Now that we’ve talked a bit about the genesis of these designs, what do you want this washable collection to represent to the world?
Don’t take yourself too seriously! And do not forget to have fun. Life is too short to not try a dinosaur rug, right? (Adults, too.)
Revival: From the T-Rex Rug to Bronto Rug, how do you imagine these washable rugs styled for grown ups?
These truly could go so many different ways, especially within their playful color palettes. I'm excited to see them in people's homes and how they style them.
Revival: Anything you’re particularly excited about that’s coming up next?
Yes! I have a new book coming out in the fall called Mother / Founder. It's a compilation of 68 stories from self-employed mothers who forged their own path. It's been an honor to work on, and I'm just thrilled we're so close to publishing!
Revival: What an accomplishment. Consider it officially bookmarked in our books! Thanks for chatting, this was a joy.
