Malatya, found in central Anatolia, is known for its coarsely knotted rugs and geometric designs woven by Kurdish tribes. An ancient city and the world’s largest exporter of apricots, Malatya has had many different names in its past: Melita to the Assyrians, Maldia to the Hittites, Melite or Melitene to the Romans, Aspozani to the Persians, and Malatiyye to the Arabs.
