Custom hand-knotted wool rug

  • 100% undyed wool
    • You may find traces of dried hay, grass, or straw in your rug as grazing sheep often collect plant matter in their coats. Remove gently by hand or with tweezers.
    • Authentic wool fibers were used to weave this rug. Please note that when wool gets damp, it will smell like a wet sheep. This is the scent of lanolin, which acts as a waxy barrier against dirt and moisture.
  • Low pile: approximately .2” thick (4-5mm)
  • 1.5” fringe and 2.3” kilim edge. Fringe is not included in the overall dimensions above.
  • Color palette: bone beige, espresso brown, taupe
  • Due to its handmade nature a 5% variance in size, color and texture is to be expected.
  • If you need a specific size not listed (ex: 7’6” x 10’2”), email us at support@revivalrugs.com. Please keep in mind there are size restrictions—the minimum and maximum dimensions we can accommodate are as noted in the drop-down.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Some custom pieces require design approval prior to production, while others will go straight to production. If this custom piece requires design approval, we’ll email you a mock-up within 1 week of placing your order. You'll then have 1 week to approve the final design. If we don't hear back within a week, your order will be canceled.

Care

  • Vacuum on low power with a non-rotary (no spinning brush) vacuum or suction attachment only.
  • Rotate your rug on occasion to ensure even wear over time.
  • Keep away from excessive moisture.
  • Do not dry clean or steam clean.
  • Professional cleaning recommended as needed.
  • Authentic wool fibers were used to weave this rug. Please note that when wool gets damp, it may in fact smell like a wet sheep. This occurs due to wool’s natural lanolin, which acts as a waxy barrier against dirt and moisture.
  • Due to the hand-crafted nature of our rugs, you can expect to see light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber and thread breakage over time. For high traffic areas, these effects may occur more quickly and easily.
  • Spot cleaning instructions:
    • Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
    • Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
    • If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
    • Repeat this process until the stain is removed

Details

The Design

A custom piece that can be ordered in many sizes, Elmas is hand-knotted in undyed, natural wool, which gives it a soft and earthy palette with organic tonal variations. This rug pays homage to traditional Turkish design with a flatwoven kilim-edge detail and a series of central diamond medallions, accented by small, pulsing details that add dynamic movement.

The Material

Undyed wool is relatively unprocessed, which means less of its lanolin is stripped out, making it both stronger, softer, and ultimately even more luxurious. Artisans separate the wool into like tones, which adds subtle movement to each area of color. The wool pile is knotted onto a wool foundation, which adds body and helps it hug the floor.

The Maker

Our weaving partner in Turkey is also a vintage rug collector, who collects and produces one-of-a-kind Turkish textiles. Their small artisan weaving house employs exclusively women, and they specialize in handknotted weaves, using their craft to preserve traditional Turkish designs.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.

About Custom Rugs

Custom rugs are final sale from the time of purchase. The estimated ship time of your custom item can be found below the "Add to Cart" button and varies based on size. Once the custom piece is is produced it is first shipped to our warehouse for a final inspection before we send it to you.

Because our custom rugs are woven by hand, there will be natural variations in color, and final sizes can vary by up to 2" in length and width.
