An elegant and flexible jute rug with serene color variation

Rug Type:
  • Flatweave Rugs

Reversible rugs without pile, also known as kilims, made by hand-weaving horizontal weft yarns through vertical warp yarns

Age:
  • New

Recently woven and never used in a home

Main Color:
  • Blue
  • 100% natural jute
  • Flatweave: approximately .2" thick (5-6mm)
  • Low-shed, easy to clean, and biodegradable
  • Please note: because the yarn is hand-dyed and the rug is handwoven, variations in color and size are to be expected'Äîand in fact, that's what makes this piece truly special. It also means your rug may not look exactly like the photo.
  • Color palette: royal blue, prussian blue, mustard yellow, cognac brown, puce brown
  • Please note: repeated sun exposure will cause fading

The Design

The original Hart is beloved for its nuanced, natural variation of hues, and Hart Abrash takes this one step further. Finely-woven hand-dyed yarns create the abrash effect for which it's named. Abrash, also styled as abraj, is transliterated from Arabic, where it means dappled or speckled. Abrash results from subtle differences in the dye lots, and gives a covetable flow and movement in color that's unique to each piece: none of these rugs is quite like the other. Bonus: its fine weave means it collects less dust.

The Material

  • Jute is a natural fiber with a golden sheen, known for its tensile strength and versatility
  • Handspun weft expresses jute's natural irregularities and textures
  • An eco-conscious crop, jute has minimal water needs, and consumes large enough quantities of carbon dioxide that it's C02-neutral
  • Jute has a desirable variation of hue and texture, which we've played up with a tonal gradation
  • Over time, the fibers' sheen will lessen, giving the rug a slightly more muted, less saturated tone. Because we like a relaxed, lived-in look, this gradual, gentle fading is our favorite quality of Hart Abrash.

The Maker

Our partner is a small, family-run operation devoted to maintaining the integrity of the yarn they use. Wherever possible they prioritize the use of organic materials, and are committed to a high level of quality and craftsmanship.

  • Clean regularly with a non-rotary, low-powered vacuum. Do not use beater brush.
  • Rotate your rug on occasion to ensure even wear over time.
  • Keep away from excessive moisture.
  • Do not dry clean or steam clean.
  • Professional cleaning recommended as needed.
  • In case of spills, use a paper towel or cloth to blot the liquid. Add some clean water sparingly to the spot to dilute the stain (or wet a paper towel or cloth) and blot gently, not vigorously. Check to make sure there's no citrus in your soap before using; this could bleach your rug. Repeat this process until the stain is removed. If the stain is persistent, try using a mild detergent, or a mixture of 1:1 white vinegar and water. Repeat this process until the stain is removed.
  • Keep away from excessive moisture as jute is very absorbent.
