Curator's Notes
- A variation of motifs—simple, tribal, bold, and colorful—all hailing from the Anatolian region (modern-day Turkey)
- A sickle-leaf motif with highly detailed and serrated leaves displays the meticulous craftsmanship and skill of the weaver
- Typically associated with the Yoruk nomads of Anatolia, these latch-hook ornaments are believed to protect against sources of danger—including ill will, wild animals, and natural disasters
Anatolia makes up the majority of modern-day Turkey. Rugs from this region are defined by their tribal and geometric designs—with plenty of symbols reflecting life from traditional households.
Material DetailsKork wool comes from the underbelly and neck of the sheep. Because both areas are slightly more protected from the elements, this wool has a higher lanolin content and a much softer handfeel—leaving behind a rich, silky luster.
