Motifs
Simple, tribal, bold, and colorful motifs that originate from the Anatolian region that comprises the majority of modern-day Turkey
A central medallion centerpiece design appropriated from 15th century Persian manuscript covers, now a mainstay of carpet weaving
Angular edges and shapes like diamonds, squares, lattices, crosses, and stripes as well as geometric animals
Geometric stepped details characteristic of Anatolian motifs
A hexagonal structure, also referred to as a lozenge, represents the female form and fertility
Region of Origin
Konya is the former capital of the Selcuk empire from where the earliest weaving traditions can be traced. It remains an important producer of rugs in Turkey.
Material Details
Kork wool is shorn from the underbelly and neck of the sheep. Because these areas are more protected from the environment, the resulting wool has a much higher lanolin content and feels softer in texture and has a greater luster and sheen.
