It's rare in a world of commerce to have free reign as an artist. In creating this collection of Moroccan rugs, our team decided to go against production norms and allow the weavers to make their magic, translating sketches from our design team with complete autonomy and no rounds of review.
Behind the scenes
When it came time to shoot the collection, we identified several potential photographers but there was one we were dying to work with: Mous Lamrabat. His portraits, like this collection, are exuberant, bright, funny and soulful. As with the weavers, we trusted and yielded to his vision.
Room for Interpretation
There were many layers of collaboration in this project - the dialogue between designers & weavers, between the weavers and the wool, and then between the weavers and the photographer. Like a game of telephone, or exquisite corpse, everyone added something new at their turn.
