We recommend buying a rug pad that’s slightly larger than the rug so you can trim it down to the proper size. Generally, rug pads should measure one to two inches less than the rug itself on each side. What you’ll need
- Measuring tape
- Heavy-duty scissors
- Black marker
Steps
- Confirm the measurements of your rug
- If you can’t find a rug pad that’s 2” smaller than your rug on both sides, purchase a rug pad that’s slightly larger
- Measure how many inches of your rug pad you need to trim off for it to be 1-2” shorter than your rug on all four sides
- Mark this on your rug pad
- Use scissors to trim the rug pad on one or both sides, depending on where you need to shorten it
