Curator's Notes

Motifs
  • A variation of motifs—simple, tribal, bold, and colorful—all hailing from the Anatolian region (modern-day Turkey)
  • A series of repeating medallions create a beautifully complex field or pattern
  • Artisanal and tribal, geometric designs feature angular edges and primitive shapes—like diamonds, squares, lattices, and stylized animals
  • Typically associated with the Yoruk nomads of Anatolia, these latch-hook ornaments are believed to protect against sources of danger—including ill will, wild animals, and natural disasters
  • An absolute classic, diamond-based designs create a beautiful and dynamic field of geometric shapes
  • Triangular amulet design—believed to protect against evil spirits and bad luck
  • Abrash adds visual depth and texture in its variation in color and tone
  • The rug's edges at the fringe are freeform and not perfectly straight, reflecting the handwoven nature and nomadic roots of this product. We ensure that the rug meets all standards for quality and this does not detract from its overall aesthetic
