Curator's Notes

The Collection

The Supernatural Doormats are named for their all-natural materials, and designed for good luck as you step through your front door. Because we’re borrowing from nature we also wanted to give back to it: so 10% of every sale is being donated to Carbon 180, who is using science to develop policy and techniques that transform carbon from a pollutant to a resource.

The Design

A grid of black rectangles with one red rectangle in the upper left hand corner for good luck

The Material

Coconut coir is a quickly-renewing natural byproduct of coconut harvesting, done with sustainable methods in India and Sri Lanka. The strong and water-resistant unused husks of coconut are handspun into tightly wound yarn which is compacted together and adhered with glue.

The Supplier

Our partner, based in Kerala, was founded in 1995 and is a coir and jute expert. Their dedication to eco-friendly natural fiber products has made them one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of coir doormats, among other products, in the region.
