Washing Machine Size Requirements for Jantar

Our rugs are compatible with most standard washing machines, but just to be safe, here are a few guidelines:

You do need a rug pad
Here's why

Why You Need a Rug Pad

While we recommend a rug pad for all rugs, they’re especially important for flatweaves, whose slim profile requires extra padding.

A rug pad prevents unwanted bunching and sliding, adds a subtle lift, and gives your rug a more cushioned feel underfoot.

Our rug pads are made of recycled felt and natural rubber, whereas lesser rug pads’ thin, sticky web can damage your flooring.

Moisture and mildew resistant, a rug pad stops dirt and grime from settling in your rug’s fibers.

The right rug pad

A must-have for flatweaves and other lower-pile pieces, a rug pad is the secret ingredient to maintaining your rug’s appearance and longevity. Width-wise, you’ll want to trim your rug pad so it’s 1-2” shorter than your rug on all four sides. Height-wise, we offer two premium rug pad options, both made of cozy recycled felt and natural rubber.

A soft, luxurious wool rug with a minimalist geometric design

  • 100% wool on 100% cotton foundation
    • You may find traces of dried hay, grass, or straw in your rug as grazing sheep often collect plant matter in their coats. Remove gently by hand or with tweezers.
    • Authentic wool fibers were used to weave this rug. Please note that when wool gets damp, it will smell like a wet sheep. This is the scent of lanolin, which acts as a waxy barrier against dirt and moisture.
  • Medium pile: approximately 1/3" thick (8-9mm)
  • Color palette: bone beige, powder blue, charcoal
  • Natural shedding within the first month of use is to be expected - keep your non-rotary vacuum handy!
  • Due to its handmade nature a 5% variance in size, color and texture is to be expected.
  • We recommend that you regularly vacuum your rug to remove dirt and grime. Depending on how heavily your rug is used, just once or twice a month is adequate. Too much vacuuming can wear down the knots and fibers more quickly. If you have a suction attachment on your vacuum cleaner, use that instead of a rotary vacuum.
  • Vacuum on low power with a non-rotary (no spinning brush) vacuum or suction attachment only.
  • Every few months, you'll also want to flip your rug over and vacuum the back to get the grit out of the foundation of the rug. It also helps to rotate your rug once a year to ensure even wear over time.
  • Every 3-5 years, we recommend getting your rug professionally hand-washed. Please do not take it to get steam or dry cleaned-this will almost certainly damage the rug! Hand-washing requires the use of a pH-balanced shampoo, worked into the rug by hand with a soft-bristled brush, before being rinsed thoroughly. This process should be repeated a few times.
  • Due to the hand-crafted nature of our rugs, you can expect to see light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber and thread breakage over time. For high traffic areas, these effects may occur more quickly and easily.
  • Spot cleaning instructions:
    • Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
    • Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
    • If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
    • Repeat this process until the stain is removed

The Collection

Superlight was inspired by architecture which facilitates the movement of light and air. A play of color, a sense of ease. Nothing is too studied, yet everything is rooted in classic proportion. The palette is drawn from Rajasthani architecture: pinks of Jaipur and blues of Jodhpur, faded haveli interiors, sandstone.

The Design

Each rug features a variation on a theme: lines inscribed in soft neutrals. Jantar is a dual-tone rug that's interrupted by two sides of a thin, black rectangle-which seems to run in and off the frame.

The Material

Cut-pile rugs with a soft, satisfying footfall and pleasing weight, the Superlight rugs are woven of wool from the Sarda sheep of the island of Sardinia, which is windswept and briny. Their wool is white, long, and warm, with a natural sheen. It's tough, too: sturdy, wiry, and waterproof. We mix this with Indian wool for softness, and it's hand-loomed onto a 100% cotton foundation for durability.

The Maker

Our partner is a third-generation family-run weaving house in Bhadohi, India. They specialize in pile rugs, and their immense knowledge helped us improve construction for durability and less shedding. Their values are twofold: creating the highest-quality product and taking care of their team, supporting their weavers in whatever they need.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.
