The Design

A beautiful, tightly-woven rug of jute and cotton. Simple without being plain, this rug has a black ground punctuated with soumak-woven jute. Soumak weaving is a technique in which the weft is wrapped around the warp, almost like embroidery.

The Material

Jute is a natural fiber with a golden sheen, known for its tensile strength and desirable variation of hue and texture. An eco-conscious crop, jute has minimal water needs, and consumes large enough quantities of carbon dioxide that it’s C02-neutral. This powerful fiber is handwoven onto a sturdy cotton foundation.

The Maker

Our partner is a small, family-run operation devoted to maintaining the integrity of the yarn they use. Wherever possible they prioritize the use of organic materials, and are committed to a high level of quality and craftsmanship.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team works across Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai. Starting with the weave itself, they determine the collection material, technique, and mood. When designs are finalized, they collaborate with the supplier on an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and hue before it goes to production.

  • Clean regularly with a non-rotary, low-powered vacuum. Do not use beater brush.
  • Rotate your rug on occasion to ensure even wear over time.
  • Keep away from excessive moisture.
  • Do not dry clean or steam clean.
  • Professional cleaning recommended as needed.
  • In case of spills, use a paper towel or cloth to blot the liquid. Add some clean water sparingly to the spot to dilute the stain (or wet a paper towel or cloth) and blot gently, not vigorously. Check to make sure there’s no citrus in your soap before using; this could bleach your rug. Repeat this process until the stain is removed. If the stain is persistent, try using a mild detergent, or a mixture of 1:1 white vinegar and water. Repeat this process until the stain is removed.
  • Keep away from excessive moisture as jute is very absorbent.
